When initially recorded, on Monday 4 June 1979 at the Pennine Sound Studios, the original title for this song was Chance; it was reworked and renamed Atmosphere, then recorded again in October/November 1979 at the Cargo Studios

Anton Corbijn directed the video for this song; it was shot on a Spanish beach in 1988

First Direct Bank used this song in one of their TV ad in Great Britain
Channel 5 also used this song as background in their TV ad for the 16 July 2003 football match in Liverpool
