MEMORIES |
|
The group usually
relies on the various promoters to book their accommodations in
the cities visited on tour, but when Joy Division arrived at the
hostel which had been reserved for them in Antwerp by the Dutch
promoter, they found it too scruffy to stop at. Led by the promoter,
the band rushed around town trying to find an hotel with rooms available.
Finally, they were successful, but the rooms were in a part-time
brothel, which meant that Joy Division could not use them until
after the close of 'business' at 3.00 a.m. When they took possession
in the middle of the night, the band found themselves in all-red
rooms with speakers under the beds and pictures of nude women all
over the walls. The gig itself had not been well-advertised, and
the promoter lost quite a lot of money on it |
